Episode 22: Anxiety - The Modern Crisis (Part 2)
Thursday Mar 05, 2026
Thursday Mar 05, 2026
Peace isn’t the absence of the storm… it’s the presence of a Savior. ⚓️
Last week, we looked at the data. We saw the weight of the "Modern Crisis." But this week on Life That Demands Truth, we are moving from the diagnosis to the blueprint for peace.
In Part 2: Anchored in the Storm, we are diving deep into the scriptures to find out what it actually looks like to "cast" our cares on Him.
What we’re covering:
The Greek Root of Worry: Why it feels like you’re being pulled in two different directions.
Living in "Day-Sized" Pieces: Why tomorrow’s problems aren't yours to solve today.
The Strategy of the Exchange: Trading your "what-ifs" for His "I AM."
If you’ve ever felt like your faith should be an "off switch" for your anxiety, but it’s not working—this episode is for you.
ANCHORED IN THE STORM
Series: A Biblical Response to Anxiety (Part 2)
I. THE THESIS OF PEACE
“Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.” — Proverbs 12:25 (ESV)
The Validation: Christianity isn't an "off switch" for human emotions; it’s a landing place for them.
The Definition: Peace isn't the absence of a storm; it’s the presence of a Savior.
II. THE WEIGHT OF WORRY
“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?” — Matthew 6:27 (ESV)
Greek Study: Merimnao (Worry) = To be drawn in opposite directions.
The Sovereignty Gap: Worry grows in the space where we forget that God is both capable and caring.
Reflection: In what area of your life are you currently being "pulled in opposite directions"?
III. THE COMMAND TO CAST
“...casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7 (ESV)
The Humble Exchange: We cannot "cast" until we humble ourselves (1 Peter 5:6). Admitting "I can't handle this" is the first step.
The Prayer Guard (Philippians 4:6-7):
The Response: "In everything by prayer..."
The Shifter: "...with thanksgiving."
The Result: A peace that acts as a sentry (guard) over your heart.
IV. LIVING IN "DAY-SIZED" PIECES
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” — Matthew 6:34 (ESV)
Manna Principle: God provides strength for today’s burdens, not next week’s "what-ifs."
The Thought Theater: What are you meditating on?
“Whatever is true... honorable... just... pure... lovely... think about these things.” (Phil 4:8)
V. THE HOLISTIC VIEW
The Struggle is Real: Even giants of faith (David, Elijah) felt overwhelmed.
The Integrated Self: God cares for your Spirit, Soul, and Body. Peace may involve prayer AND Sabbath rest, community, or professional counsel.
WEEKLY CHALLENGE: THE EXCHANGE
Identify one "What if..." that is weighing you down today. Exchange it for a "He is..." statement based on the verses above.
My "What If": _________________________________________________
His "He Is": __________________________________________________
FINAL BENEDICTION
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)

Episode 21: Anxiety - The Modern Crisis (Part 1)
Thursday Feb 26, 2026
Thursday Feb 26, 2026
We often treat anxiety like a "spiritual failure," but the data tells a different story. This Thursday at 9:00 AM, we are dropping Part 1: The Modern Crisis. We’re diving deep into the startling statistics of anxiety in today’s society and—more importantly—how it is specifically impacting the Church. From the "anxious pew" to the "vulnerable pulpit," we are looking at the diagnosis of the modern soul.
The Stats We’re Discussing:
Why 1 in 5 adults are currently in the thick of an anxiety disorder.
The "Sovereignty Gap": Why knowing the Bible doesn't always stop the panic.
The 2026 Trend: Why more people are returning to the Church specifically seeking peace.
⚠️ BUT DON’T STOP THERE: This is just the beginning. Part 1 is about understanding the weight, but Part 2: Anchored in the Storm is where we find the anchor. You’ll want to digest the data this week so you’re ready for the biblical blueprint for peace coming next.
Understand the crisis. Prepare for the cure.
LISTENER AIDE:
I. THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD
“Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.” — Proverbs 12:25 (ESV)
The Reality Check: Anxiety isn't just a "bad day." In 2026, we are living in a state of high-alert.
Reflection: What is the "weight" you’ve been carrying this week?
II. THE DATA OF DISTRESS
According to recent 2025–2026 studies:
The General Population: Nearly 1 in 5 U.S. adults had an anxiety disorder in the past year.
The Crisis Point: 1 in 10 adults reported a mental health crisis where they felt their thoughts became unmanageable.
The "What If" Loop: “And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?” — Matthew 6:27 (ESV)
III. THE ANXIOUS PEW
Being a Christian doesn’t make you immune; it makes you a target.
The Relational Strain: 54% of practicing Christians say mental health issues actively impact their closest relationships.
The Paradox: We have the "Truth," yet 34% of believers cite anxiety as their primary hurdle to a satisfying life.
Key Concept: The "Sovereignty Gap"—the space between what we know about God and how we actually feel.
IV. A GENERATION YEARNING
Gen Z & Millennials: 94% of Gen Z report regular mental health challenges.
The Good News: Bible engagement among Millennials jumped from 30% in 2024 to 39% in 2025. People aren't looking for "religion"; they are looking for Peace.
V. THE VULNERABLE PULPIT
Leader Alert: 65% of pastors report feelings of isolation—a significant jump over the last decade.
Discussion Point: Why is it so hard for those in leadership to admit they are struggling?
LOOKING AHEAD: DON'T MISS PART 2
This episode was the Diagnosis. In Part 2, we move to the Cure.
Next Week: "Anchored in the Storm" We will dive into the Biblical blueprint for peace, including:
The "Exchange" strategy in 1 Peter 5:7.
The Guarded Mind of Philippians 4:6-8.
How to live in "Day-Sized" pieces.

Episode 20: Great Things Come Through Tribulation
Thursday Feb 19, 2026
Thursday Feb 19, 2026
No one prays for hardship. No one asks for the crushing weight of tribulation. But what if the very thing that feels like it’s breaking you is actually building you?
In this week's episode of the podcast, we’re diving deep into the purpose behind the pressure. We’re breaking down the divine chain reaction in Romans 5:3–4:
- Tribulation creates the strength to stay.
- Perseverance proves your character.
- Character births a hope that cannot be shaken.
Whether you feel like you’re in the middle of a "divine delay" or just trying to survive the heat of a hard season, this conversation is for you. God isn't absent in the fire; He’s refining the gold.
LISTENER AIDE:
Theme: Transforming tribulation into hope through the process of Romans 5:3–4.
I. The Introduction: The Honest Truth
The Hook: Open with the physical reality of "The Furnace." Mention that gold only purifies at 1,064 degrees. Pressure isn't an accident; it's a requirement for value.
The Devotional Reading: Read the core text of Romans 5:3–4 and the opening paragraph of the devotional slowly and with intention.
The Thesis: Address the "Why?" We don't pray for hardship, yet we crave the "great things" that only hardship produces. Introduce the concept of Divine Development.
II. Segment 1: The Anatomy of the Chain
Focus on the "Mechanics" of the scripture.
Tribulation —> Perseverance: Define Thlipsis (the Greek word for tribulation, meaning "crushing pressure"). Explain that perseverance isn't just "surviving"; it’s "staying under" the weight without running away.
Perseverance —> Character: ethos means character: where we get our word ethical
Character is the "provenness" of a person. Use the diamond metaphor here. Pressure doesn't create the carbon; it rearranges it into something unbreakable.
Character —> Hope: Why does character lead to hope? Because once you’ve seen God sustain you through one fire, you have evidence for the next one. This is "Confident Trust," not "Wishful Thinking."
III. Segment 2: The "Peace vs. Pressure" Principle
Focus on the Cam Welsh quote: "The life we build in times of peace..." is where we live in times of pressure “
The Preparation Phase: Discuss what it means to build "in times of peace." This involves spiritual habits (prayer, study, community) that act as the foundation before the storm hits.
The Reveal: Pressure doesn't actually create our weaknesses; it reveals them. Like a house in a hurricane, the storm simply shows us where the foundation was already weak.
The Grace Factor: If the pressure revealed a crack in your character, that’s not a failure—it’s an opportunity for "Divine Development" to begin.
IV. Segment 3: Navigating the Middle
Focus on the "If you are walking through a hard season" section.
Breaking vs. Building: How to tell the difference. When we feel like we are "breaking," God is often just "breaking down" our self-reliance to "build up" our God-reliance.
Divine Delay: Explore the idea that "Waiting time is not wasted time." Resistance is what makes the muscle grow. If the process were easy, there would be no transformative growth.
V. The Conclusion: Hope Rising
The Takeaway: Reiterate that God is active, not absent. He is the master craftsman in the furnace with you, carefully monitoring the heat.
Difference between reaction and action
Reaction is feelings driven where action is spirit driven.
The preparation prepares us for the pressure/persecution
The Blessing is on the other side of the Battle:
When God wanted to make David a King, he didn’t give him a crown he gave him Goliath
When God wanted to raise up Joseph to the palace, the didn’t give him a shortcut, he gave him a prison cell.
When God wanted to make Esther a queen, he didn’t give her comfort, he gave her a crisis.
Get through the battle to get the blessing
The Encouragement: You are loved, and there is nothing you can do about it."
The Closing Prayer: Expand the provided prayer into a guided reflection for the listener, focusing on the strength to endure the current "refining" process.

Episode 19: The God Who Asks Questions
Thursday Feb 12, 2026
Thursday Feb 12, 2026
What if the most powerful moments in Scripture are not God’s answers… but His questions?
“Where are you?”“Where is your brother?”“Who do you say that I am?”“Do you want to be made well?”
In this week’s episode, we explore why an all-knowing God asks questions — and what those questions reveal about our hearts.
Sometimes the questions we avoid are the ones that change us most.
LISTENER AIDEThe God Who Asks Questions
Main Idea:God’s questions are not requests for information. They are invitations to transformation.
As you listen, reflect on what each question reveals about your own heart.
“Where are you?”Genesis 3:9“But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, ‘Where are you?’”
What this question reveals:• Sin leads to hiding• Shame distorts relationship• God initiates pursuit
Personal Reflection:Am I hiding from God in any area of my life?Where am I spiritually right now?
“Where is Abel your brother?”Genesis 4:9“Then the Lord said to Cain, ‘Where is Abel your brother?’ He said, ‘I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?’”
What this question reveals:• We are responsible for how we treat others• Deflection is a common response to conviction• God confronts injustice
Personal Reflection:Am I avoiding responsibility in any relationship? How am I caring for the people God has placed in my life?
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?”Job 38:4“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding.”
What this question reveals:• God’s perspective is eternal• Our understanding is limited• Humility is essential in suffering
Personal Reflection:Have I demanded explanations from God instead of trusting His sovereignty? Is my perspective too small?
“But who do you say that I am?”Matthew 16:15“He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’”
What this question reveals:• Faith is personal• Cultural opinions are not enough• Jesus demands a response
Personal Reflection:Who is Jesus to me personally? Is my belief inherited, assumed, or owned?
“Do you want to be made well?”John 5:6“When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been in that condition a long time, He said to him, ‘Do you want to be made well?’”
What this question reveals:• Healing requires surrender• Change requires desire• Familiar dysfunction can feel safer than transformation
Personal Reflection:Do I truly want change? What might I need to release in order to be healed?
Closing PrayerPsalm 139:23–24“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.”
As you finish this episode, take a moment of silence and ask God to search your heart.

Thursday Feb 05, 2026
Thursday Feb 05, 2026
Prayer is often treated like a last resort, but Scripture presents it as our first response. This week on the podcast, we sit down with Pastor Tripp Astin, Prayer Pastor at Northside Church, for a real and honest conversation about the power of prayer, prayer as a ministry, and what prayer was always meant to be. This episode is not about formulas or performance, but about presence, honesty, and drawing near to God. If you have ever struggled with prayer or wondered if it really matters, this conversation is for you.

Episode 17: The Weight of the Stone - When Mercy interrupts Judgement
Thursday Jan 29, 2026
Thursday Jan 29, 2026
Are You Holding a Stone? 🪨✨
We’ve all been there—scrolling through a feed, hearing a rumor, or witnessing a mistake and feeling that immediate urge to judge. It’s easy to point out the "sin" in someone else’s life while keeping our own neatly tucked away.
In today’s episode, we’re diving deep into one of the most explosive confrontations in the New Testament: John 8:7. When the religious elite tried to use a woman’s failure as a political trap, Jesus didn’t join the mob. Instead, he handed them a mirror.
📖 Listener’s Aide: "The Mirror and the Stone"
Episode Reference Guide for John 8:1–11
This guide provides the full scriptural context for today’s discussion on judgment, hypocrisy, and the radical mercy of Jesus.
1. The Accusation: The Legal Trap
The Scribes and Pharisees weren't just asking for an opinion; they were citing specific religious laws to force Jesus into a corner. However, they were being "selectively obedient" to these laws.
Leviticus 20:10
"If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death."
Deuteronomy 22:22
"If a man is found sleeping with another man’s wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die. You must purge the evil from Israel."
Insight: Notice that both verses demand that both parties be punished. By bringing only the woman, the accusers revealed that their motive was a "trap" for Jesus, not a true desire for biblical justice.
2. The Mirror: Our Shared Human Condition
When Jesus says, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone," he is invoking a principle found throughout the New Testament: none of us are in a position to be the ultimate judge because none of us are perfect.
Romans 3:23
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Matthew 7:3–5
"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."
Insight: Jesus shifts the trial from the woman’s outward action to the crowd’s inward condition. He forces the "executioners" to become "defendants" in their own consciences.
3. The Resolution: Mercy That Restores
Jesus does not excuse the sin, but he refuses to use it as a reason to destroy the person. He offers a path forward that the Law, by itself, could not provide.
Micah 7:18
"Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy."
Insight: The phrase "Go and sin no more" is the perfect balance of grace and truth. He gives her her life back (Mercy), but he also gives her a new direction (Transformation).
4. Conclusion: Dropping Your Own Stones
The Takeaway: We are all "the woman" at some point, and we are all "the crowd" at others.
The Challenge: Ask yourself: Who are you holding a stone for right now? Is it a colleague? An ex? Yourself?
Final Thought: Grace isn’t about ignoring the wrong; it’s about acknowledging that the only person qualified to throw the stone is the one who chose to drop it and offer a hand up instead.
Key Takeaways to Remember:
The Crowd: Left from oldest to youngest, proving that with age often comes the realization of our own failures.
The Silence: Jesus writing in the dirt shows he wasn't rattled by their anger.
The Stone: A stone in your hand cannot be used to help someone up. You have to drop the stone first.

Episode 16: Using Scripture as a Filter Not a Weapon
Thursday Jan 22, 2026
Thursday Jan 22, 2026
We quote Scripture quickly when someone else is wrong, but slowly when God wants to confront our own heart. This week’s episode goes straight to the tension between knowing verses and actually letting them shape our anger, pride, fear, and self justification. Is Scripture forming your reactions or just fueling your arguments. Come ready to let the Word read you before you read it aloud.

Listener AidUsing Scripture as a Filter, Not a Weapon
Core Truth for This EpisodeScripture is meant to examine and shape my heart before it is ever used to correct someone else.
Opening Reflection
Hebrews 4:12 NASB“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
As you listen, notice where Scripture presses inward rather than outward.Ask yourself whose heart is being examined first.
Why We Prefer Scripture Outwardly
James 1:19 to 20 NASB“But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.”
Reflection spaceWhere do I most often feel justified using Scripture against othersWhat emotions are usually present when I do
Scripture as a Mirror First
Matthew 7:3 to 5 NASB“Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye… first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”
Reflection spaceWhat logs am I tempted to ignoreHow would clarity change my tone or timing

AskWhat is my anger protecting
PridePhilippians 2:3 NASB“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves.”
AskDoes Scripture humble me or elevate me
Fear2 Timothy 1:7 NASB“For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.”
AskAm I using Scripture to trust God or to control outcomes
Self JustificationPsalm 139:23 to 24 NASB“Search me, O God, and know my heart… and lead me in the everlasting way.”
AskWhat am I defending instead of surrendering
When Scripture Is Meant to Be Spoken Outward
Galatians 6:1 NASB“Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.”
Reflection spaceIs my goal restoration or reliefWould gentleness change the outcome
Weekly Practice
When reading Scripture this week, pause and askWhat does this reveal about GodWhat does this expose in meHow should this shape my response today
Closing Reminder
Colossians 3:16 NASB“Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you…”
When Scripture dwells richly within us, it does not need to be wielded loudly around us.Let the Word do its deepest work in you first.

Thursday Jan 15, 2026
Thursday Jan 15, 2026
LDT Episode 15 is now LIVE!
“When Scripture Confronts Our Comfort” explores what happens when God’s Word challenges our assumptions, presses on our preferences, and refuses to let us stay the same. This is not about guilt or condemnation. It is about the quiet moments where Scripture gets uncomfortably personal and invites a response.
If you have ever skipped a verse, explained one away, or felt the Bible hit a little too close to home, this episode is ready for you.

Listener AidWhen Scripture Confronts My Comfort
Opening Reflection
Scripture comforts, encourages, and reassures. It also confronts, challenges, and unsettles. This episode invites you to notice where God’s Word presses against your sense of ease, control, or preference. Discomfort is not always something to escape. Sometimes it is something to pay attention to.
Take a moment before listening to pray honestly:“God, help me hear what I need, not just what I prefer.”
1. Comfort vs. Peace
As you listen, consider the difference between comfort and peace. Comfort protects what feels familiar. Peace rests in God even when things are disrupted.
• Where in my life am I prioritizing comfort over faithfulness• What routines, habits, or assumptions feel untouchable right now
Key ScriptureJohn 16:33
2. When Scripture Pushes Back
Pay attention to moments in the episode where resistance shows up. That resistance often points to where growth is needed.
• Are there passages of Scripture I avoid or quickly explain away• Do I read the Bible to be affirmed or to be formed• What emotions surface when Scripture challenges me defensiveness fear frustration
Key ScripturesHebrews 4:12James 1:22
3. Biblical Examples of Discomfort
The Bible is full of people who encountered God and walked away changed or conflicted or both.
• Which biblical story mentioned in the episode do I resonate with most• Where do I see myself in their response to God
Key ScripturesMatthew 19:21–22Jonah 4:2Matthew 26:52
4. Responding Instead of Resisting
Scripture does not confront us to crush us. It confronts us to invite surrender.
• What is one area where God may be asking me to loosen my grip• What would a small step of obedience look like this week
Key ScripturesPsalm 139:23–24Romans 12:1–2
Closing Prayer
“God, search me and know me. Show me where comfort has taken the place of trust. Give me the courage to respond to Your Word with honesty and obedience. Lead me in Your way, even when it costs me something. Amen.”
Final Thought
If Scripture feels uncomfortable, it may be because God is doing careful and intentional work. Discomfort is not the enemy of faith. Avoidance is. Let the Word speak fully, even when it rearranges what feels safe.

Episode 14: What Obedience Looks Like on a Tuesday
Saturday Jan 10, 2026
Saturday Jan 10, 2026
Obedience rarely looks dramatic. It is a decision that needs to be made every single day...even on Tuesday!
In this week’s episode, we talk about what obedience looks like in the ordinary moments. The quiet decisions. The unseen faithfulness. The daily choices that shape who we are becoming long before anything changes around us. If we want to hear God clearly, we also have to learn how to live what He’s already spoken.
Listener’s Guide
What Obedience Looks Like on a Tuesday
Key ThemeObedience is rarely loud or dramatic. Most of the time, it shows up in ordinary moments that test our faithfulness, character, and trust in God.
Opening Reflection
We often associate obedience with big, life altering decisions. This episode invites us to consider how God shapes us through the small, unseen choices we make every day.
Scripture to Reflect On:Luke 16:10James 1:22
Reflection Prompt:Where have I been waiting for a “big moment” while overlooking the small ones?
Understanding Everyday Obedience
True obedience is not about recognition or reward. It is about faithfulness when no one is watching and consistency when nothing feels spiritual.
Scripture to Reflect On:Colossians 3:231 Corinthians 4:2
Reflection Prompt:What ordinary responsibilities in my life could I view as acts of obedience to God?
Identifying Our “Tuesday Moments”
Tuesday moments are routine, repetitive, and often unnoticed. They are the places where obedience quietly forms who we are becoming.
Examples to consider:
Responding with patience instead of frustration
Choosing honesty when cutting corners would be easier
Showing kindness without expectation of return
Scripture to Reflect On:Matthew 25:21
Reflection Prompt:What are the recurring situations in my week where God may be inviting me into obedience?
Why Small Obedience Matters
God uses consistency to build character. Small acts of obedience shape our hearts long before they change our circumstances.
Scripture to Reflect On:Galatians 6:9Proverbs 3:6
Reflection Prompt:How might faithful obedience in small things be preparing me for something greater?
Living It Out This Week
Obedience becomes real when it moves from intention to action. This week is not about doing more, but about being faithful where we already are.
Practical Application:
Begin each day asking God to reveal one opportunity for obedience
Pause before reacting in moments of tension
Commit to one small, consistent act of faithfulness
Scripture to Reflect On:Romans 12:1Psalm 37:5
Closing Reflection
Obedience is not measured by how visible it is, but by how faithful it is. God sees the Tuesday moments, and He uses them to shape us more than we realize.
Closing Scripture:Hebrews 13:16
Final Thought:This week, choose one ordinary moment and intentionally live it in obedience to God. Let faithfulness, not recognition, be the goal.
