Episode 19: The God Who Asks Questions
Thursday Feb 12, 2026
Thursday Feb 12, 2026
What if the most powerful moments in Scripture are not God’s answers… but His questions?
“Where are you?”“Where is your brother?”“Who do you say that I am?”“Do you want to be made well?”
In this week’s episode, we explore why an all-knowing God asks questions — and what those questions reveal about our hearts.
Sometimes the questions we avoid are the ones that change us most.
LISTENER AIDEThe God Who Asks Questions
Main Idea:God’s questions are not requests for information. They are invitations to transformation.
As you listen, reflect on what each question reveals about your own heart.
“Where are you?”Genesis 3:9“But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, ‘Where are you?’”
What this question reveals:• Sin leads to hiding• Shame distorts relationship• God initiates pursuit
Personal Reflection:Am I hiding from God in any area of my life?Where am I spiritually right now?
“Where is Abel your brother?”Genesis 4:9“Then the Lord said to Cain, ‘Where is Abel your brother?’ He said, ‘I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?’”
What this question reveals:• We are responsible for how we treat others• Deflection is a common response to conviction• God confronts injustice
Personal Reflection:Am I avoiding responsibility in any relationship? How am I caring for the people God has placed in my life?
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?”Job 38:4“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding.”
What this question reveals:• God’s perspective is eternal• Our understanding is limited• Humility is essential in suffering
Personal Reflection:Have I demanded explanations from God instead of trusting His sovereignty? Is my perspective too small?
“But who do you say that I am?”Matthew 16:15“He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’”
What this question reveals:• Faith is personal• Cultural opinions are not enough• Jesus demands a response
Personal Reflection:Who is Jesus to me personally? Is my belief inherited, assumed, or owned?
“Do you want to be made well?”John 5:6“When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been in that condition a long time, He said to him, ‘Do you want to be made well?’”
What this question reveals:• Healing requires surrender• Change requires desire• Familiar dysfunction can feel safer than transformation
Personal Reflection:Do I truly want change? What might I need to release in order to be healed?
Closing PrayerPsalm 139:23–24“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.”
As you finish this episode, take a moment of silence and ask God to search your heart.

Prayer is often treated like a last resort, but Scripture presents it as our first response. This week on the podcast, we sit down with Pastor Tripp Astin, Prayer Pastor at Northside Church, for a real and honest conversation about the power of prayer, prayer as a ministry, and what prayer was always meant to be. This episode is not about formulas or performance, but about presence, honesty, and drawing near to God. If you have ever struggled with prayer or wondered if it really matters, this conversation is for you.

Episode 17: The Weight of the Stone - When Mercy interrupts Judgement
Thursday Jan 29, 2026
Thursday Jan 29, 2026
Are You Holding a Stone? 🪨✨
We’ve all been there—scrolling through a feed, hearing a rumor, or witnessing a mistake and feeling that immediate urge to judge. It’s easy to point out the "sin" in someone else’s life while keeping our own neatly tucked away.
In today’s episode, we’re diving deep into one of the most explosive confrontations in the New Testament: John 8:7. When the religious elite tried to use a woman’s failure as a political trap, Jesus didn’t join the mob. Instead, he handed them a mirror.
📖 Listener’s Aide: "The Mirror and the Stone"
Episode Reference Guide for John 8:1–11
This guide provides the full scriptural context for today’s discussion on judgment, hypocrisy, and the radical mercy of Jesus.
1. The Accusation: The Legal Trap
The Scribes and Pharisees weren't just asking for an opinion; they were citing specific religious laws to force Jesus into a corner. However, they were being "selectively obedient" to these laws.
Leviticus 20:10
"If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death."
Deuteronomy 22:22
"If a man is found sleeping with another man’s wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die. You must purge the evil from Israel."
Insight: Notice that both verses demand that both parties be punished. By bringing only the woman, the accusers revealed that their motive was a "trap" for Jesus, not a true desire for biblical justice.
2. The Mirror: Our Shared Human Condition
When Jesus says, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone," he is invoking a principle found throughout the New Testament: none of us are in a position to be the ultimate judge because none of us are perfect.
Romans 3:23
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Matthew 7:3–5
"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."
Insight: Jesus shifts the trial from the woman’s outward action to the crowd’s inward condition. He forces the "executioners" to become "defendants" in their own consciences.
3. The Resolution: Mercy That Restores
Jesus does not excuse the sin, but he refuses to use it as a reason to destroy the person. He offers a path forward that the Law, by itself, could not provide.
Micah 7:18
"Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy."
Insight: The phrase "Go and sin no more" is the perfect balance of grace and truth. He gives her her life back (Mercy), but he also gives her a new direction (Transformation).
4. Conclusion: Dropping Your Own Stones
The Takeaway: We are all "the woman" at some point, and we are all "the crowd" at others.
The Challenge: Ask yourself: Who are you holding a stone for right now? Is it a colleague? An ex? Yourself?
Final Thought: Grace isn’t about ignoring the wrong; it’s about acknowledging that the only person qualified to throw the stone is the one who chose to drop it and offer a hand up instead.
Key Takeaways to Remember:
The Crowd: Left from oldest to youngest, proving that with age often comes the realization of our own failures.
The Silence: Jesus writing in the dirt shows he wasn't rattled by their anger.
The Stone: A stone in your hand cannot be used to help someone up. You have to drop the stone first.

Episode 16: Using Scripture as a Filter Not a Weapon
Thursday Jan 22, 2026
Thursday Jan 22, 2026
We quote Scripture quickly when someone else is wrong, but slowly when God wants to confront our own heart. This week’s episode goes straight to the tension between knowing verses and actually letting them shape our anger, pride, fear, and self justification. Is Scripture forming your reactions or just fueling your arguments. Come ready to let the Word read you before you read it aloud.

Listener AidUsing Scripture as a Filter, Not a Weapon
Core Truth for This EpisodeScripture is meant to examine and shape my heart before it is ever used to correct someone else.
Opening Reflection
Hebrews 4:12 NASB“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
As you listen, notice where Scripture presses inward rather than outward.Ask yourself whose heart is being examined first.
Why We Prefer Scripture Outwardly
James 1:19 to 20 NASB“But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.”
Reflection spaceWhere do I most often feel justified using Scripture against othersWhat emotions are usually present when I do
Scripture as a Mirror First
Matthew 7:3 to 5 NASB“Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye… first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”
Reflection spaceWhat logs am I tempted to ignoreHow would clarity change my tone or timing
Filtering the Heart
AngerEphesians 4:26 to 27 NASB“Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity.”
AskWhat is my anger protecting
PridePhilippians 2:3 NASB“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves.”
AskDoes Scripture humble me or elevate me
Fear2 Timothy 1:7 NASB“For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.”
AskAm I using Scripture to trust God or to control outcomes
Self JustificationPsalm 139:23 to 24 NASB“Search me, O God, and know my heart… and lead me in the everlasting way.”
AskWhat am I defending instead of surrendering
When Scripture Is Meant to Be Spoken Outward
Galatians 6:1 NASB“Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.”
Reflection spaceIs my goal restoration or reliefWould gentleness change the outcome
Weekly Practice
When reading Scripture this week, pause and askWhat does this reveal about GodWhat does this expose in meHow should this shape my response today
Closing Reminder
Colossians 3:16 NASB“Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you…”
When Scripture dwells richly within us, it does not need to be wielded loudly around us.Let the Word do its deepest work in you first.

LDT Episode 15 is now LIVE!
“When Scripture Confronts Our Comfort” explores what happens when God’s Word challenges our assumptions, presses on our preferences, and refuses to let us stay the same. This is not about guilt or condemnation. It is about the quiet moments where Scripture gets uncomfortably personal and invites a response.
If you have ever skipped a verse, explained one away, or felt the Bible hit a little too close to home, this episode is ready for you.

Listener AidWhen Scripture Confronts My Comfort
Opening Reflection
Scripture comforts, encourages, and reassures. It also confronts, challenges, and unsettles. This episode invites you to notice where God’s Word presses against your sense of ease, control, or preference. Discomfort is not always something to escape. Sometimes it is something to pay attention to.
Take a moment before listening to pray honestly:“God, help me hear what I need, not just what I prefer.”
1. Comfort vs. Peace
As you listen, consider the difference between comfort and peace. Comfort protects what feels familiar. Peace rests in God even when things are disrupted.
• Where in my life am I prioritizing comfort over faithfulness• What routines, habits, or assumptions feel untouchable right now
Key ScriptureJohn 16:33
2. When Scripture Pushes Back
Pay attention to moments in the episode where resistance shows up. That resistance often points to where growth is needed.
• Are there passages of Scripture I avoid or quickly explain away• Do I read the Bible to be affirmed or to be formed• What emotions surface when Scripture challenges me defensiveness fear frustration
Key ScripturesHebrews 4:12James 1:22
3. Biblical Examples of Discomfort
The Bible is full of people who encountered God and walked away changed or conflicted or both.
• Which biblical story mentioned in the episode do I resonate with most• Where do I see myself in their response to God
Key ScripturesMatthew 19:21–22Jonah 4:2Matthew 26:52
4. Responding Instead of Resisting
Scripture does not confront us to crush us. It confronts us to invite surrender.
• What is one area where God may be asking me to loosen my grip• What would a small step of obedience look like this week
Key ScripturesPsalm 139:23–24Romans 12:1–2
Closing Prayer
“God, search me and know me. Show me where comfort has taken the place of trust. Give me the courage to respond to Your Word with honesty and obedience. Lead me in Your way, even when it costs me something. Amen.”
Final Thought
If Scripture feels uncomfortable, it may be because God is doing careful and intentional work. Discomfort is not the enemy of faith. Avoidance is. Let the Word speak fully, even when it rearranges what feels safe.

Episode 14: What Obedience Looks Like on a Tuesday
Saturday Jan 10, 2026
Saturday Jan 10, 2026
Obedience rarely looks dramatic. It is a decision that needs to be made every single day...even on Tuesday!
In this week’s episode, we talk about what obedience looks like in the ordinary moments. The quiet decisions. The unseen faithfulness. The daily choices that shape who we are becoming long before anything changes around us. If we want to hear God clearly, we also have to learn how to live what He’s already spoken.
Listener’s Guide
What Obedience Looks Like on a Tuesday
Key ThemeObedience is rarely loud or dramatic. Most of the time, it shows up in ordinary moments that test our faithfulness, character, and trust in God.
Opening Reflection
We often associate obedience with big, life altering decisions. This episode invites us to consider how God shapes us through the small, unseen choices we make every day.
Scripture to Reflect On:Luke 16:10James 1:22
Reflection Prompt:Where have I been waiting for a “big moment” while overlooking the small ones?
Understanding Everyday Obedience
True obedience is not about recognition or reward. It is about faithfulness when no one is watching and consistency when nothing feels spiritual.
Scripture to Reflect On:Colossians 3:231 Corinthians 4:2
Reflection Prompt:What ordinary responsibilities in my life could I view as acts of obedience to God?
Identifying Our “Tuesday Moments”
Tuesday moments are routine, repetitive, and often unnoticed. They are the places where obedience quietly forms who we are becoming.
Examples to consider:
Responding with patience instead of frustration
Choosing honesty when cutting corners would be easier
Showing kindness without expectation of return
Scripture to Reflect On:Matthew 25:21
Reflection Prompt:What are the recurring situations in my week where God may be inviting me into obedience?
Why Small Obedience Matters
God uses consistency to build character. Small acts of obedience shape our hearts long before they change our circumstances.
Scripture to Reflect On:Galatians 6:9Proverbs 3:6
Reflection Prompt:How might faithful obedience in small things be preparing me for something greater?
Living It Out This Week
Obedience becomes real when it moves from intention to action. This week is not about doing more, but about being faithful where we already are.
Practical Application:
Begin each day asking God to reveal one opportunity for obedience
Pause before reacting in moments of tension
Commit to one small, consistent act of faithfulness
Scripture to Reflect On:Romans 12:1Psalm 37:5
Closing Reflection
Obedience is not measured by how visible it is, but by how faithful it is. God sees the Tuesday moments, and He uses them to shape us more than we realize.
Closing Scripture:Hebrews 13:16
Final Thought:This week, choose one ordinary moment and intentionally live it in obedience to God. Let faithfulness, not recognition, be the goal.

Episode 13: Discerning Gods Voice in a World that Never Stops Talking
Thursday Jan 01, 2026
Thursday Jan 01, 2026
In a world that never stops talking, learning to discern God’s voice matters more than ever. In this week’s episode, we talk about how God still speaks clearly even in seasons filled with noise, stress, and distraction. We explore what God’s voice sounds like, why we struggle to hear Him, and how Scripture helps tune our hearts to truth. This conversation is not about escaping the noise, but learning to recognize His voice within it. New episode drops this week. Be sure to listen and lean in.
Listener’s AidLearning to Discern God’s Voice in a World That Never Stops Talking
Opening ReflectionWe live in constant noise. Some of it comes from the world around us, and some of it comes from within us. God has not stopped speaking, but we often struggle to recognize His voice among so many competing sounds. This episode invites you to shift your focus from trying to eliminate noise to learning discernment within it.
Scripture to reflect on:1 Kings 19:11–12Isaiah 30:21
Take a moment to consider what kind of noise fills most of your days. Is it external, internal, or both?
God’s Voice Has a SignatureGod’s voice is consistent because His character is unchanging. When He speaks, His words bring clarity and direction, even when they challenge us. God’s correction leads toward life, while voices of fear, shame, and condemnation push us toward isolation and confusion. Discernment grows as we become familiar with His voice through relationship, not perfection.
Scripture to reflect on:John 10:27James 3:17Romans 8:1
As you reflect, ask yourself whether the voices you are listening to produce peace and clarity or anxiety and pressure.
Why We Struggle to Hear ClearlyEmotional exhaustion, unprocessed pain, and constant stimulation can make it difficult to hear God clearly. Stress and trauma can blur the line between God’s leading and our internal responses. Comparison adds unnecessary pressure, and sometimes we avoid listening because we are afraid of what obedience might cost us.
Scripture to reflect on:Psalm 46:10Proverbs 4:23Hebrews 12:1
Pause and consider what might be dulling your spiritual sensitivity right now. Is there something God may be inviting you to lay down?
The Role of Scripture in DiscernmentScripture helps tune our ears to God’s voice. God will never contradict His revealed character. When He speaks personally, His words will always echo biblical truth. Scripture shapes not only what we hear from God, but how we recognize His tone and intention. Slow and intentional reading builds discernment over time.
Scripture to reflect on:Psalm 119:1052 Timothy 3:16–17Hebrews 4:12
As you read Scripture this week, resist the urge to rush. Notice what draws your attention and why.
Practicing Stillness Without Escaping RealityStillness is not about withdrawing from life but becoming attentive within it. God often speaks in quiet moments we usually rush past. Small pauses, short prayers, and moments of reflection throughout the day create space for listening. Prayer becomes richer when we allow room for God to speak, not just ourselves.
Scripture to reflect on:Psalm 131:2Mark 1:35Lamentations 3:25–26
Try creating one intentional pause each day this week where you simply sit and listen.
Closing EncouragementHearing God is relational and accessible. Discernment develops through time, trust, and obedience in small moments. God is not hiding His voice from His children. Even in loud and uncertain seasons, clarity is possible. The invitation is not to strain harder, but to listen wiser.
Scripture to reflect on:Jeremiah 29:13Proverbs 3:5–6John 14:26
Carry this truth with you: God desires to be heard more than you fear missing Him.

Thursday Dec 18, 2025
Learning to hear God’s voice is something many of us long for, yet often feel unsure about. In this week’s episode of the Life That Demands Truth Podcast, we talk about how God speaks clearly and consistently through Scripture and how to recognize His voice with confidence and discernment. This conversation is practical, grounding, and deeply encouraging for anyone seeking clarity and direction. The episode releases this Thursday at 9am.
Listener’s CompanionLearning to Hear God’s Voice Through Scripture
Many believers say they want to hear God’s voice, yet feel unsure where to begin. Scripture reminds us that God is not silent. He has chosen to speak clearly, consistently, and faithfully through His Word. Hearing God is less about chasing a moment and more about learning attentiveness over time.
1. Hearing Begins with RelationshipJesus describes His followers as people who recognize His voice because they know Him. Hearing God through Scripture grows out of relationship, not technique. As you read the Bible, you are not just gathering information. You are learning the tone, heart, and character of the Shepherd.
ReflectionDo I approach Scripture as a conversation with God or as a task to complete?
Key ScriptureJohn 10 verse 27Hebrews 1 verse 1 through 2
2. Scripture Is God’s Primary VoiceGod uses many things to guide us, but Scripture is the foundation that keeps us grounded in truth. The Bible reveals who God is, what He values, and how He works. When we filter our thoughts and decisions through Scripture, we learn to recognize God’s voice with greater clarity.
ReflectionWhen I seek guidance, do I turn first to God’s Word or to my own instincts?
Key ScriptureSecond Timothy 3 verse 16 through 17Psalm 119 verse 105
3. God Speaks Through the Story of ScriptureThe Bible speaks in many forms: stories, poetry, wisdom, and letters. God’s voice is often heard not in isolated verses but in the larger story He is telling. As you read, pay attention to patterns, themes, and the way God consistently reveals His heart.
ReflectionWhat themes or truths does God seem to repeat in my reading?
Key ScriptureRomans 15 verse 4Luke 24 verse 27
4. Training the Ear Takes PracticeJust like learning a language or a musical instrument, hearing God through Scripture develops with time and consistency. Slow reading, repeated passages, reflection, and obedience help tune your spiritual hearing. God often speaks most clearly when we are willing to linger.
ReflectionWhat would it look like to slow down my time in Scripture this week?
Key ScriptureJoshua 1 verse 8Psalm 1 verse 1 through 3James 1 verse 22
5. Discerning God’s Voice from Our OwnGod’s voice will never contradict His Word or His character. It produces the fruit of the Spirit and leads toward truth, humility, and love. When you are unsure, Scripture helps test what you are hearing and brings alignment to your heart.
ReflectionDoes what I sense aligns with the character of Christ revealed in Scripture?
Key ScriptureFirst John 4 verse 1Galatians 5 verse 22 through 23

Episode 10: Testimony of Transformation
Thursday Dec 11, 2025
Thursday Dec 11, 2025
This week's episode shares a powerful story of addiction, redemption, and the kind of transformation only God can work in a life. Our special guest, Carlton Jefts, opens up about his darkest moments and the moment God grabbed hold of his heart and changed everything. Pastor Phil and Frank sit down for a raw, hope filled conversation that reminds us no one is too far gone. If you or someone you love needs a reminder that grace still breaks chains, you won’t want to miss this one.
Listener’s CompanionTestimony of Transformation: A Story of Freedom from Addiction
This episode walks through a story of addiction, brokenness, hope, and the unmistakable grace of God. Use this companion as you listen. Let it guide your reflection and help you consider where God may be speaking into your own life.
Before the Fall – Understanding the BeginningAs you hear about his life before addiction, take a moment to think about your own origin story. What shaped you. What influences made you who you are. Transformation always starts with understanding where you began.
When Addiction Sneaks InPay attention to the pressures and patterns he describes. Addiction rarely announces itself. It grows in shadows, whispers, and compromises. Notice how his beliefs about himself played a role. Ask yourself whether you’ve ever believed something about yourself that wasn’t true and where that belief led you.
The Breaking PointEvery story of redemption has a valley. As he shares his lowest moments, don’t rush past the weight of it. Brokenness is real, and pretending it isn’t only delays healing. Think about any moment in your life when everything felt like it was collapsing. What did it reveal about your need for God.
Where God Stepped InListen closely to how God entered his story. Maybe it came through a person. Maybe it came through Scripture. Maybe it came through a moment he didn’t expect. As you hear it, consider how God has tried to interrupt your own destructive patterns. Sometimes God shouts. Sometimes He whispers. Sometimes He waits until you finally look up.
The Early Steps Toward FreedomTransformation isn’t magic. It’s usually messy, slow, and filled with small yeses. As he talks about rehab, community, and spiritual practices, reflect on the people or tools God has placed in your own life. Pay attention to any Scripture he mentions. Those verses often become lifelines for others walking through the same storm.
The New Life God BuiltWhen he describes who he is today, notice the difference between the man he used to be and the man he has become. Redemption isn’t about polishing up the old life. It’s about receiving a new one entirely. Ask yourself what God has restored in your life or what restoration you’re still longing for.
The Journey Still GoingNo one “arrives.” Even after deliverance, we keep walking, learning, growing, and leaning on grace. As he talks about how he stays grounded, think about your own rhythms. What keeps you steady. What needs to change to keep you moving in the right direction.
A Word to the Worn Out and WoundedAt the end, listen to his encouragement like he’s speaking directly to you. If you’re struggling with addiction, shame, fear, or anything that feels too heavy to name, let his words remind you that God meets people in the dark and leads them into light. If you’re not in that place personally, hold this story for someone who is.
